Katherine Waterston Joins Cast of ‘Amundsen’

“Fantastic Beasts” star Katherine Waterston has joined the cast of “Amundsen,” a biopic of the Arctic explorer Roald Amundsen directed by Espen Sandberg, the hot Norwegian director of Golden Globe- and Oscar-nominated “Kon-Tiki” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

SF Studios has come on board the project to represent it worldwide and will be kicking off pre-sales at Cannes. SF Studios will also be distributing the movie across Scandinavia.

Pål Sverre Hagen (“Kon-Tiki”) will star as Amundsen, who was the first man to reach both the South and the North Poles. Christian Rubeck (“What Happened to Monday”) will play Roald’s brother. Waterston, the up-and-coming actress whose recent credits include “Alien: Covenant,””Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “Inherent Vice,” will portray Roald’s last love, who was known as Bess Magids.

The movie will depict how Amundsen won his epic race to the South Pole, beating Robert Scott and the British Empire, as well as shed light on aspects of Amundsen’s private life, including secret affairs and his close, but troubled relationship with his brother.

The movie is being produced by John M. Jacobsen, Kristian Strand Sinkerud and Espen Horn at Motion Blur Films. Shooting is set to take place in Iceland, Czech Republic and Norway.

“Amundsen” is expected to be released theatrically in early 2019.

Tribeca 2018: Katherine talks about Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald

Katherine Waterston has opened up about the upcoming sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, insisting that J.K. Rowling has done a wonderful job of growing and changing the characters.

“Tina is still there trying to get things sorted. It was so much fun. J.K. Rowling is doing a wonderful job of allowing the characters to grow and change. And Tina definitely gets to do that in this installment. She’s more assured and tougher and she has kind of got her groove back at work, which is where we have left her at the end of the first.”

Katherine was asked how long after “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” is “The Crimes Of Grindelwald” set, but the she didn’t think she was allowed to make such a revelation, so refused to deviate from what the trailer showed us.

“I am definitely not allowed to say that. I only say things that I have seen in the teaser. ‘It is dark. I have a wand and a coat. I look worried’.”

Waterston’s character Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein has every right to be worried, too, because alongside her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) she has to fight the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

We’ll finally get to see how they do just that when “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald” is released on November 16, 2018, while it will be followed up by three sequels.

Tribeca Film Festival 2018: ‘State Like Sleep’ Reviews

Katherine was reunited with her co-stars during the premiere of ‘State Like Sleep’ this week at Tribeca Film Festival 2018. So far we have good reviews about the movie and you can read part of it below:

The Hollywood Reporter by  — The aftershocks of trauma can take many forms, as Katherine (Katherine Waterston) learns following the death of her famous husband in “State Like Sleep,” writer-director Meredith Danluck’s unsettling first feature. Aided by Christopher Blauvelt’s sumptuous cinematography, this consistently surprising film slinks along with melancholic dreaminess, matching the fugue state that plagues its grief-stricken protagonist. With Michael Shannon and Luke Evans also upending expectations in supporting roles, it’s a confident debut that should reap considerable attention from distributors, and opportunities for Danluck, following its premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

The Playlist by Joe Blessing (April 30, 2018) — Overall, “State Like Sleep” is a satisfying movie about grief and an unsatisfying mystery. Waterston gives her best performance to date, showing every step of her character’s long emotional climb out of grief and back into the world of the living.

Solzy at the Movies by Danielle Solzman (April 27, 2018) — Led by Katherine Waterston and Michael Shannon’s performances, writer-director Meredith Danluck takes a fascinating approach to grieving by way of State Like Sleep.

Film Inquiry by Lee Jutton (April 30, 2018) — Danluck has great style as a filmmaker that harkens back to the best noir thrillers of yesteryear; she just needs to write a script with the substance to match.
